Life Drawing! (and pain..)

Whew! I am totally out of drawing shape. I felt like I'd been running after 2 hours of straight gesture drawing!! My arm...oh man. And we're working on 24"x36"--which is extreeemely inconvenient...they don't fit in my art locker, and carrying around the super heavy big drawing bored gave me blisters all over my hands =(

But back to drawing...we started with 2 minute poses, going down to 1 min, 3o seconds, and then 15 sec. I think I like 30 the best!! Most of them are terrible! But Domenic says that you will do 150 bad drawings, and maybe the 151th one will be OK. haha. The first one was an earlier one, and the second one started out as a 15 second, but he had us keep working on it for a while..I have no clue how long..a few minutes? it was fun...and exhausting! woo.

Into the woods...
Didn't draw much in class today...so i did this later on. (with my new black, grey, and red marker pen things I got at ASW! Her arms are too long..I've been doing that alot lately...Buut, I'm feeling a bit obsessed with Red Riding Hood motifs at the moment!!

ahh...my long day is tomorrow! But we are doing gestures in Life Drawing...wee!

doodles in class...
I think I'm going to love my life drawing class. Art history looks rather boring...but Jarek and Camelia are in it!! But the biggest news of the day is that I drove on the freeway! (my first time without my parents...haha) but I went with Virginia to the Art Supply Warehouse to get stuff for class..spent way too much money....oh welll! and then we had Self Defense which also looks fricking cool...walk home...swim...and spicy dinner! ahhh...I'm exhausted. Oh! My drawings! Finally something non-observational! The first one is the glassy-eyed bored looking feeling I had in Art hist. The other I drew on the shuttle..it's unfinished (don't know if I will) Amanda says her forehead has an anhk design..I was just proud of the hands!

schoooool !

Some sharpie landscapes of campus I did during my break...and a quick sketch I did in pen of my geology class! Claasses were ok...I think they will be easy...aw.

hmm..I've been drawing from observation more lately. eh, just lacking inspiration.

Started my new sketchbook! (and got a new sharpie) time to celebrate.
Virginia chillin in my room..
hehe...I don't know...randomly inspired by my poster and school starting!
and umm...I was just doodling around while watching Garden State with the girls. The hands look super funky!! but oh wellll....time for bed, school tomorrow! I hope 3-D design is cool..rate my prof says my teacher is hot..haha!

sucky boredom drawings...

ahhhh...

I don't have a key yet...so i couldn't leave all of yesterday whilst my roomies were at work. Unfortunately I was having a very un-inspirational time and had no clue what to draw!....I tried experimenting with graphite powder since I have a HUGE jar of it from last semester that will take me probably the rest of my life to use up. I looove the smooth effect of it..but it makes me lazy so i use the chamois too much..The girl is from Anthem mag. She was smoking (ew) and wearing a rather ridiculous looking dress, so I changed a few things. I can't wait until class starts!! Hopefully that'll get my creative juices flowin'!

My first day in my new place!
I drew this last night before falling asleep. It is my view from my bed..but not for long, cause I think I'll have to move it around when I finally get my desk..

My roomie Amanda on our new awesome fouton, and our friend Steph on the couch. Her head looks transparent..cause I drew the pillow first...oops!

Our friend Elham stopped by later on..I drew her on the phone..hehe!

Steph on the couch...she looks dead.

And finally, we watched Pride and Prejudice a bit ago..this is my cartoony version of Elizabeth Bennet! (her arms are much too long, but I'll just say she is staning in really tall grass so her proportions make more sense?) Anyway..it's a marvelous movie. And I watched Saved, which was surprisingly good! Ok, possibly early day tomorrow...I must get some sleep!

I miss my doggie...
Drawn my last night at home. She was sleeping quite soundly in my room, keeping me company while I packed. aww...I'm getting all sad now...

Girl In Wolves Clothing
ahh...My first drawing in two days!! I'm finally (pretty much) done with my bad ass scrapbook. I still need to do an intro page..but I needed a break! And I need to pack tomorrow...bleh. But anyway, pardon the weird coloring..it's just pencil and pen..but I have really weird/pathetic lighting at night!

New Art! (finally..)
I'm not letting my sickness hinder my productivity today!! I painted three watercolor-postcards of Portage Lake in Michigan for my great aunts and uncles...I hope they like them! I tried to be more patient with these...they were pretty fun to do even though I used to despise landscapes.
... And then I did a quickie self portrait. Not much patience here...I returned to my old blobbing colors together technique! oh well, it was fun.

Sketch of Van Gogh's "Bedroom" and "Poet's Garden."
And gestures of some of Degas' sculptures! Man I love those dudes...

Chicago!
Sketches from the "el" train. The girl I made up. But everyone seems to listen to their ipods on this thing...and the tattoos were inspired by a girl I saw on a bus. The other sketch is just a quick observation while we were on our way downtown to the Art Institute...I'll post a few sketches from that later on..

I'm so proud of myself!

This is the first car I have ever drawn of my own free will....and it looks decent!! This was drawn outside of the market where from my previous post..boredom can lead to great doodles, I guess!
On the down side of things, however, I am sick...again. I'm seeing a connection here...

Anyway, I have a mini-high school reunion thing to go to..wee!

Bloomington, IN.

These are from shopping at Sahara Mart. I was quite bored...thus, drawings of their wine selection, olive counter, and a blind contour of my dad's bike!

yes...there's more!
I drew this one night in our hotel...just felt like drawing for the sake of drawing!!
and the other is from the "Thirsty Perch" restaurant (where I had possibly the best burger of my life!) Ok, that's the end of Michigan. Next is Indiana!!

I love drawing on placemats!

Family History.
Drawings from "da yooper", the upper peninsula of Michigan, where my grandmother's family emigrated from Finland.
Here's a sketch of the Kokko family grave plot where my great great grandparents and great aunts and uncles are buried.

This is a blind contour of my great uncle Matt. He's 89 and still cuts all his own firewood!! That's his fireplace, and a juxtaposition of the deer head on his wall....

Lake Superior!

A sketch from our first day in Marquette Michigan.

Boing boing.

ugh, I'm still three hours ahead....time for bed!

Travel Sketches

The girl on the left was done on the plane, and the one on the right was my view of the terminal during our lay-over in Minneapolis!

Randomosity!
Here begins my midwest vacation sketches! This was my doodle page in my first sketchbook, just random little things I wove together over a week's time. James said it was kind of like the Immarteria! I think I'll start doing something along these lines in all my books..it's rather fun!

Monday, August 07, 2006

I've been in Michigan for the past week...doodling on placemats and sketching random things I encounter. I shall post them when I return home!! Until then...umm...I guess i'll just draw some more! ciao!
